The Open Group
Open Standards organisation The Open Group were
being persuaded by their sponsor members to address the convergence of Computing
and Telephony happening in the cellular industry.
Having no staff skilled in this area The Open
Group contracted Wheatstone to conduct a comprehensive technical analysis of the
sector, looking specifically for gaps and overlaps in standards which would
create inhibitors to the implementation of end to end solutions. Having
delivered this research at a Global conference, Wheatstone were then retained to
create comprehensive documentation on all the regulatory and commercial
standards initiatives in progress and to present this information in the form of
an online portal.
Having established that there was indeed
standards issues in the area of Mobile Data, Wheatstone Consulting launched a
global initiative called he Mobile Management Forum on behalf of our client.
During the launch phase Wheatstone wrote a White Paper setting out the aims and
objectives of the effort and conducted the initial European analyst and press
tour as well as recruiting many of the 25 founder members.
Members of the
forum included Boeing, Sun, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, JP Morgan, IBM, Symbol,
Cisco, NTT DoCoMo, Symbian, and NetMotion Wireless.
Wheatstone Consultants continued to be involved
in the day to day running of the Mobile Management Forum, providing technical,
procedural, and market analysis skills. In 2001 we also prepared and executed
the Japanese launch of the Forum.
The Forum completed is primary objective in
mid-2003 at which point Wheatstone Consulting handed back management and
maintenance of the Forum to Open Group staff.
